While on vacation in Walt Disney World, we had a surprisingly delicious lunch at Starring Rolls and checked out the new shows and additions of Star Wars at Hollywood Studios. We can’t wait to go back to see the completed park!
On our “rest day” between special foodie events at Epcot for the Food & Wine Festival, like the Mexican Tequila Lunch, French Family Meal Traditions, and Party for the Senses, we visited Hollywood Studios to see the new Star Wars show and rides.
We’d heard that they had some new additions but we hadn’t been to Hollywood Studios since last December when we went for the last time to see the Osbourne Family Lights Spectacular. BTW, I’m still extremely upset that the Christmas display is gone. I really, really, really hope that it’s not gone for good and it’s going to pop up somewhere else in Disney. Keep your fingers crossed, it really was the most magical Christmas display I’ve ever seen!
Since I was still a little mad at Disney for taking away my favorite holiday event, I wasn’t too excited to go back to Hollywood Studios but I did it for Travis since he loves Star Wars.
Storm Troopers March of the First Order
We got there around 9:30 and by 9:45 we saw that people were lining both sides of the street in preparation for the March of the First Order. Cast members were going up and down the street asking people to join the “light” or “dark” side of the street and handing kids “light sabers” to play with.
Travis was in the gift shop pin trading so I kept taking my pictures outside. I didn’t think we’d stay for the march but the music started a few minutes later so we decided to stick around. I was surprised how loud and intense the music for the march was, I swear I could feel the vibrations from the music! It felt like it was coming from all sides of the park, so everyone was wildly looking around for where the storm troopers were going to come from.
The storm troopers came from the direction of the entrance of the park and marched down the center of Hollywood Boulevard towards the stage. It was pretty impressive and exciting, I’m not going to lie, I was into it!
Star Wars at Hollywood Studios: Path of the Jedi
The crowd followed the storm troopers up to the stage which led into the 10-minute Path of the Jedi show. The show was entertaining, it showed clips from the movies and had the main Star Wars characters come out on stage.
Pro Tip – Parents like to put their kids on their shoulders, so if you’re standing in the middle of the crowd (like we were) you won’t be able to see much. We moved to the right side towards the back where there was a ledge. I stood up there to be able to see the show better.
Star Wars Launch Bay
After the Path of the Jedi show, we walked over to the (old) animation area (by the Voyage of the Little Mermaid ride) to check out the new Star Wars Launch Bay. At first glance, we thought it was a quick service counter but once we got closer we saw that it has a character meet and greet area, a gift shop, an art section and much more to walk through and look at!
There was a life-size storm trooper to take pictures next to inside the gift shop, jawas (yes, I had to ask Travis what they were called) with glowing red eyes in one of the dark hallways taking pictures and many figurines of things from the movie.
If you’re really into Star Wars, you’ll love it, Travis really enjoyed it. For me, it was just a nice place to cool off and get out of the sun for a bit. I did like the art section, I have to admit that was pretty cool!
Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple
Travis wanted to walk over to see how long the line was for the Star Wars ride, so we trekked in that direction and ran into the kids Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple show. It was fun to watch , the kids who participated were adorable. I don’t think the show is new and they offer it 15 times a day, so I don’t think it would be too hard to get your child into if they wanted to participate.
The line for the ride was still ridiculously long and no fast passes were available so we headed towards the back of the park to see what they had done with my beloved New York City area. It was all blocked off and under construction, so we couldn’t see much, but they did have big murals up on the walls depicting what the new Hollywood Studios will look like eventually. It looks pretty great, I’m excited to see how it turns out.
Lunch at Starring Rolls Cafe
After we explored all the new Star Wars activities, we stopped at Starring Rolls Cafe to grab some lunch. It was our first time eating there and I wasn’t expecting much. I figured it was like most of the other quick service spots in Disney but I was so wrong!
Travis got a turkey sandwich which he said was good and he enjoyed it but it was nothing special.
I got the (vegetarian) roasted vegetable quinoa sandwich on a whole wheat croissant and it was fabulous! It was loaded with big slices of portobello mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, and onions that tasted like they had been marinating in a balsamic and Italian dressing marinade for hours. The roasted vegetables were piled on top of tri-color quinoa mixed with baby arugula and fresh greens, and all of this was stuffed into a freshly-baked whole wheat croissant.
It was so delicious and I loved every last bite! I would go back to Hollywood Studious just to get another sandwich. All sandwiches are served with a choice of fruit or a bag of chips for a side for around $10. I felt that was a pretty good value for the size and quality of the sandwiches.
Toy Story Mania & Beauty and the Beast
After lunch, we had a fast pass for Toy Story Mania. I won, by the way! Travis wasn’t too happy about that. I was happy to see that they still had the Walt Disney Museum/Show still setup, I thought I had heard a rumor that they were replacing it but it’s still there! It’s a great mini-movie about his life and the walkway to the movie is filled with memorabilia from his life. I highly recommend you take a few minutes to walk through and check it out!
Before we left, we had to stop at the outdoor theater to see the live Beauty & the Beast show, it’s my favorite! And Travis had to get a mickey bar, of course.
We headed back to the hotel after that but we had such a great time at Hollywood Studios. We can’t wait to go back once everything is completed.
Have you gone to see the new area for Star Wars at Hollywood Studios yet? Have you tried the roasted vegetable sandwich at Starring rolls? Let me know in the comments!
