Tangy passionberry kombucha martinis that are mixed with a healthy alternative instead of sugar loaded fruit juices or soda. You don't have to feel guilty about having a few of these cocktails!

Passionberry kombucha martinis taste sweet, tart, tangy, and bubbly all in one sip! This vibrant and tropical kombucha cocktail is a lighter take on cocktails made with soda or fruit juice.

A filled martini glass topped with an orange slice on a wooden table top.

I love kombucha, it's sweet, bubbly, and it's the perfect replacement for soda or sugary fruit juice. I love all the flavors, but passionberry bliss is my all-time favorite. It tastes refreshing, tart, and sweet, all at once. Passionberry is a tropical blend of passionfruit juice, blackberry juice, and fermented tea. It's delicious to drink on its own, but it's especially great to use as a mixer in a kombucha cocktail!

These passionberry martinis are tropical, vibrant, and incredibly tasty. This kombucha cocktail is a great option to enjoy on a warm summer evening by the pool or to make a big pitcher if you're planning a fun night in with your best girlfriends.

Can You Mix Alcohol with Kombucha?

You can definitely use kombucha as a mixer in an alcoholic drink. It's probably not great for the probiotics that are in the fermented tea, but it sure tastes delicious in a cocktail!

How To Make a Kombucha Cocktail

To make this kombucha cocktail, combine all of the ingredients except for the orange slice in a shaker. Stir gently for 15 seconds and then strain the liquid out of the shaker into a martini glass. Rim the glass with the orange slice and then hang it on the side.

Serving Suggestions

This kombucha cocktail is delicious enjoyed with appetizers like vegan spinach artichoke dip or zucchini pizza bites. Any of the following meals would be great too.

  • Quinoa Spinach Salad with Mango Dressing
  • Lemon Tahini Courgette Salad
  • Summer Wheat Berry Salad
  • Chipotle Chickpea Taco Salad

Two martinis next to sliced oranges on a wooden table top.

Substitutions & FAQ

  • Passionberry Kombucha Substitutions - You can use any flavor of kombucha that you like to make this cocktail. I have also made this recipe with the mango, blueberry, and trilogy kombucha. All flavors are delicious!
  • Rum Substitutions - If you're not a fan of rum, you can use gin or vodka instead.
  • Should I shake or stir the martini? Definitely stir it because the kombucha is carbonated and it will get really fizzy if you shake it.
  • Should I chill the glass? You don't have to, but it's a nice touch! I included instructions on how to do so in the section below.

Success Tips

  • There might be sediment at the bottom of the glass bottle, but don't shake the bottle of kombucha to try to mix it. It is carbonated, so if you shake it, it will spray everywhere when you remove the cap.
  • If you want to chill the martini glass, fill it to the top with ice and soda water and let it sit for a few minutes while you're making the cocktail.
  • Put the ice in the shaker first so it chills the rest of the drink ingredients while you're making it.
  • Since kombucha is carbonated, don't shake the drink. It's best to stir it to combine. If you do shake it, it will get very fizzy and then you'll lose the bubbles.
  • Finish the cocktail by rimming it and garnishing it with a slice of citrus. You can hang it on the side or let it float on top.

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Stir Spoon
  • Martini Glass

Ingredients

  • 4 oz passionberry Kombucha
  • 1 ½ oz rum or vodka
  • ½ oz orange juice
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 1 small orange sliced

Instructions

  • In a cocktail shaker with ice, add 4 ounces kombucha, 1 ½ ounces rum, ½ ounce orange juice, and 1 ounce Cointreau. Gently stir the contents together (don't shake it) for 15 seconds to combine.
  • Take an orange slice and run it around the lip of the glass to give it an orange scent. Put a strainer on top of the shaker and slowly pour the contents into a martini glass.
  • Rim the glass with an orange slice and then hang it on the side or let it float on top.

Notes

  • There might be sediment at the bottom of the glass bottle, but don't shake the bottle of kombucha to try to mix it. It is carbonated, so if you shake it, it will spray everywhere when you remove the cap.
  • If you want to chill the martini glass, fill it to the top with ice and soda water and let it sit for a few minutes while you're making the drink.

Mmmm, what a creative use of kombucha, Stacey! I love kombucha and have friends who make it homemade, which I wish I knew how to do! I love the chia kombuchas, but any of the berry or tropical flavored ones are my fave! Will have to try this cocktail soon!

OMG I am actually drinking that Kombucha tea right now as I reading this. There brand is the best. I've never made drinks with it but I know some people drink it the day after drinking to help with handovers. This looks yummy. Thanks for the idea.
