DIY feminine place cards with a jeweled accent, perfect for a bridal shower, tea party or girls night!
I love setting the table and decorating a table scape for a special event. This past Mother’s Day, I threw a tea party for my mom. I could see the idea in my mind of how I wanted it to look. I scoured our local craft stores but couldn’t find what I needed. So, I decided to make it myself. I was going for a light & airy, girly, flower filled theme, with lots of lace doilies, flowered fine bone china and mis-matched tea cups. The jeweled place cards were the final touch that really tied everything together! They were so easy to make, and it only took my about 5 minutes to create.
When you craft something yourself, you really have a blank canvas to work with. You can find the exact colors and textures that you want to perfectly match the other decorations. I wanted to make seating cards for the table and place cards for the buffet table that matched. I found all the items I needed at my local craft store.
By creating your own place cards, you can make them all identical or each can have a slight variation to really make them stand out. I wrote “Guest of Honor” on my mom’s seating card, she really loved that! By customizing each one, they look so special, people really notice the details!
- 3 pieces of full-page card stock
- 1 package of label stickers
- 1 package of jewel stickers
- 1 sharpie marker
- Paper cutter or scissors and ruler.
Step 1 – I used my paper-cutter to cut the strips so it would be perfectly straight and even. Crooked lines drive me bananas! If you don’t have a paper-cutter, use a ruler first to mark where you want to cut.
Step 2 – Lay the card stock vertically on the paper-cutter. Measure the width and make a small mark at 4 inches. I was able to get 2 long strips from one piece of card stock. Turn the 2 strips horizontally and cut in half. Each strip is 4 x 5 inches long.
Step 3 – Fold each piece in half, add a label sticker and a jewel sticker or flower sticker to each. Try to place the jewel or flower in a different spot on each card so they look unique but still match.
Step 4 – Now, use the sharpie to write your label. I used them to label food on the buffet table or as seating cards at the main table.
How easy was that?! Now, you have these lovely little place cards that match your theme but give it an extra special touch. I’m telling you, it’s all in the small details! You can hand craft anything and make it look 100 times better than something that is store-bought. I know it made my mom feel extra special when she saw all my hand crafted touches.
This craft will work for any party type. Say you’re having a Halloween party, use black card stock, a white label and a small pumpkin, spider or candy corn embellishment. You’ll blow your guests away with your craft skills!
