Don’t you hate not having the right sized bow for a gift? Don’t stress! You can easily turn any small bow into a large bow with this DIY bow tutorial!
With only 2 weeks left until Christmas, I’ve been wrapping gifts like a crazy person!
Any free time I have, I try to wrap a few gifts so I can be done with everything before Christmas. I always say that I’m going to try to be done with everything by December 15th, so I can relax and enjoy the holiday season.
Obviously, that never happens. Usually, I end up working right up to the very last-minute.
Last night, I was wrapping a big gift, and I realized that I didn’t have a big enough bow for it. It was after midnight and I was already in my jammies, so I really didn’t feel like making the trek to the store to get a bigger bow. I just wanted to be done with it and didn’t want to add one more thing to my to-do list.
Has this ever happened to you? What did you do? I couldn’t let it go bow-less, so I made my own!
Gift Wrapping DIY Bow Tutorial
It’s really simple to do, and all you need is…
- Wire ribbon
- Glue gun.
- 1 piece of construction paper
- 1 small or medium-sized bow
Step 1 – Cut out a small square of construction paper, this is the base of the bow.
Step 2 – Cut (8) 6 inch long pieces of wire ribbon. Fold one piece of ribbon in half and put one small dot of glue on one edge of the construction paper square. Attach the ends of the folded ribbon to the square where you put the glue, press down for 10 seconds.
Step 3 – Repeat this step on all 4 sides of the square and all 4 corners. After you do the first 4 sides, the next 4 will slightly overlap each other in the center.
Step 4 – Fluff all the ribbons.
Step 5 – Put a small dot of glue in the center and attach the smaller bow, press down until dry.
Optional – At this point, you could also continue adding ribbon loops to make a bow without having a smaller bow to put in the middle.
Step 6 – Check for any dried glue strings that may be stuck to it and remove them. Turn it over and check the bottom, that’s where mine were hiding!
Voila! Isn’t it lovely? You’ve instantly doubled the size of your bow, and it’s ready to top your big gift. You don’t have to use the same color bow and ribbon either, you can use any color combo you like! I would pick two colors that match or accent the wrapping paper to make sure everything flows together.
I hope this DIY bow trick saves you a trip to the store in the middle of the night! Happy wrapping!
